"You probably haven’t heard of Alex Steyermark’s films Prey for Rock N’ Roll or One Last Thing, but if he’s the guy who finally cracks the William Gibson movie, he’ll be our hero. One of his next projects is an adaptation of Idoru, which will be a Japanese anime film." /www.patternhunter.com/

Re: Idoru as Anime
Fri, April 21, 2006 - 7:47 AMOhmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally! I always thought his books would make great anime and now someone is finally doing it! This is going to be great, oh yeah!
I still hope they will do an anime of Neuromancer one day. That would kick ass bigtime!

Re: Idoru as Anime
Fri, April 21, 2006 - 6:53 PMIt would just be nice to see ANYONE do any of his books or stories justice in film. Johnny M sucked as an adaptation and what the hell happened with New Rose Hotel? Two of my favourite actors...had they even read the story? It was like sleepwalking through a rock video. *sigh*
Idoru will translate beautifully...assuming it actually is translated and not just "based on". Be even nicer though to see as film rather than anime. Where are the Wachowski Bros when we need them? -

Re: Idoru as Anime
Mon, April 24, 2006 - 5:38 PMJohnny M wasnt that bad, I mean New Rose Hotel was a much worse adaptation, and if it wasnt for Walken, that thing would have been the biggest waste of film ever, as it is, its mildly amusing but doesnt really fit the story in my opinion.
I love to see movies inspired by Gibson or anyone delving in the cyberpunk universe, regardless of the faithfulness to the original story (honestly does hollywood EVER stick to the story?) I just like seeing the genre moving forward, especially in film.
I'm looking forward to this, lets hope it doesnt become another Neuromancer and disappear. -

Re: Idoru as Anime
Wed, January 30, 2008 - 2:27 AMHi
Johnny M wasn't a bad flick, as long as you hadn't read the story...whatever happened to Molly's eyeware and fingernail blades? What's with this whip thing she used?
On a positive note, the change to the story line, with the new virus and the doctor's attempt to fix it could have made for a sequel to the original story rather than a substitute.
What was done with New Rose Hotel? Was it produced?
Wachowski Bros are a bit 'old hat' now, there's great producers coming from behind the old 'iron curtain'.
may your circuitry never overheat

Idoru would be the next Akira!!! (for those of you who are old enough to remember the stir that movie made. Never seen a better animated nuclear bomb blast since).
